Wheatland  Community Hockey Grant

Purpose

The Wheatland Community Hockey Grant is our way of giving back to the families who make our hockey community what it is. We know hockey can be expensive, and we believe that no child should miss out on playing the game they love because of financial pressure.

This fund reflects Wheatland Hockey’s core values — confidence, discipline, integrity, and leadership — by supporting players who are growing not just as athletes, but as people.

Guiding Principles

  • Dignity & Simplicity: Families don’t need to justify their situation. If they could use a hand, we’re happy to help.

  • Connection & Pride: Every family should feel proud to share their child’s story — this is about belonging, not proving need.

  • Community & Leadership: By helping others, we strengthen the culture that makes Wheatland Hockey special.

  • Transparency & Integrity: All grants are paid directly to the player’s home hockey association to offset registration or development fees.

Eligibility

To be eligible, families must:

  1. Have a player who has participated in at least one Wheatland Hockey program (Wheatland Hockey Club, Wheatland Performance, or Wheatland Cardinals).

  2. Be registered or planning to register with their local hockey association.

  3. Submit a short player bio (1–2 paragraphs) including:

    • Why your player loves hockey or what hockey means to them(Parents can write on their child’s behalf — we want to celebrate, not evaluate.)

Grant Amounts

  • Typical grants range from $100–$300 per player, depending on available funds.

  • Funds are paid directly to the player’s home hockey association to support registration or development costs.

Funding Source

  • A portion of Wheatland Hockey revenues will be set aside to fund these grants.

  • Community members, alumni, or sponsors may also contribute directly.

Application Process

  • Families complete a short online form (via Google Forms or the Wheatland website).

  • Submissions are reviewed by a small internal committee.

  • Selection is based on sharing support fairly, not on financial verification.

  • Recipients will be contacted by email, and funds will be paid directly to their home association.

Timeline

  • Applications open: November 5, 2025

  • First application deadline: December 1, 2025

  • Recipients notified by: December 15, 2025

  • Next funding window: May 2026 (for summer/fall programming)

Optional Recognition

Families can choose to have their child’s photo and short “Why I Love Hockey” bio featured on Wheatland Hockey’s website or social media — a way to highlight the great young people in our community and celebrate what makes hockey meaningful.

Evaluation & Impact

At the end of each year, Wheatland Hockey will share a short summary of the program — number of families supported, total dollars distributed, and stories (with permission). This helps us keep the fund sustainable and transparent, while celebrating the good we’ve done together.
